Propagating Gardenias through Cuttings: Step-by-Step Guide and Care Instructions

Necessary Materials:
Pruning shears or knife
Rooting hormone
Potting substrate (peat and perlite)
Pots with drainage
Plastic cover (bags or dome)

Steps:
1.Cutting: In early summer, cut a 10-15 cm piece of a healthy, semi-woody stem below a leaf node. Remove the bottom leaves, keeping some on top.
2.Rooting: Dip the cut end in rooting hormone. Plant it at a depth of 2-5cm in moist potting soil. Cover with a dome or plastic bag in a warm, bright area, but out of direct sunlight.
3.Irrigation: Keep the soil slightly moist.
4.Check Roots: After 4-8 weeks, check for the presence of roots by gently pulling on the cutting.
5.Acclimatization: Gradually expose to more air by removing the plastic cover.
6.Transplant: Move to a larger pot or shady location once roots are established.
7.Care: Water regularly, use an acidifying fertilizer and prune in early spring.
