It may happen that you have metal objects, perhaps old and to which we are especially attached, which due to humidity or poor maintenance have oxidized, acquiring an old and damaged appearance. There are many solutions to remove rust from metal, but here are some that you can apply at home.
Most products to remove rust from objects contain chemical compounds and abrasives, which are toxic to health. In addition, almost all involve immersing objects in a solution, with the risk of damaging particularly delicate objects.
The solutions that we propose below, on the other hand, are not at all toxic or harmful to health, and can be applied at home safely, obtaining more than satisfactory results.
Remove rust with aluminum foil.
This is perhaps one of the most effective and least known tricks for removing rust from metal objects. Cut small pieces of aluminum foil about 10 centimeters long, moisten them and rub them over the rust.
You’ll notice that the rust comes off quickly, as if the foil were an eraser. Once the rust is removed, wipe with a cotton cloth.
One of the advantages of this method is that aluminum foil is extremely malleable and can easily reach even difficult corners.
Baking soda
One of the most popular remedies, it works best with thin layers of rust. Applying it is very simple and really only takes a few minutes.
Moisten baking soda with water and apply to rust-damaged items.
Scrub with a toothbrush or sponge, then wipe with a cotton cloth.
Lemon and salt against rust
Lemon juice has a mild abrasive property and when combined with salt can be very effective in removing rust from metal objects.
Sprinkle some salt over the rusty object, then pour in the lemon juice and use the same zest to rub well until all the rust is completely removed.
Finally, wipe with a microfiber or cotton cloth.
