How to care for an orchid
In this Christmas period it is easy to receive plants as gifts, and not just poinsettias. Orchids are also plants that are often given as a thank you gift for special meals prepared on these days.
You will have to know how to take care of them, so that they last all year round and even longer. Orchids are one of the most popular flowers to give as gifts and are highly prized for their beauty and style. So don’t be afraid, because taking care of them is not that difficult.
The importance of lighting.
Like almost all plants, orchids also need plenty of light, but they should never be placed in direct sunlight. Ideally, they should be placed near a window and, if a lot of light enters, they can be filtered with thin curtains.
The right temperature
There are many different species of orchids, so not all of them can be cared for in the same way. However, all of them come from tropical climates, so cold temperatures are not suitable for their proliferation.
Therefore, having them at home is a good option, since the climate in our house is usually warm.
Fertilizers
Nutrients are usually one of the elements that we must add to all the plants we have at home, in order to cover all the deficiencies that the flower may have.

How to Water an Orchid
Watering is also very important for our orchid to look perfect. Orchids cannot be watered with just any water (as many drinking waters are quite hard); Bottled water is perfect for this purpose.
It is essential that the substrate does not become too soaked with water, so it is advisable to place some moistened clay balls under the pot.
Every plant needs to be watered, the same goes for the orchid. If we want to make it “almost immortal” we just have to follow a few simple rules. For example, if we are in the summer season, the orchid plant can be placed outside the house.
In this case the orchid will have to be watered every 7 days, for this you will have to use a vase that contains the orchid, this must be well sprayed with water and once the fertilizer is dissolved it must be poured into the vase.
At this point, let the roots moisten well for about 20 minutes. We can take advantage of this time to remove all the dry peduncles, which no longer provide any food to the plant.
After 20 minutes, remove the plant and let all the water drain off, then use the water from the vase again and water again from above, so that the roots get wet again and turn green.
The water will continue to come out of the orchid vase and in the meantime we will wash the larger vase that contains it, in which it was previously inserted. This process must be carried out to prevent the formation of bacteria that would affect the plant.
This simple procedure should be done every 7 to 10 days in summer, but less frequently in winter, it will make you beautiful and lush for a long time.
