That is, the process is very clean and it is not necessary to have biochemical knowledge related to the type of soil to be used, its acidity, humidity, drainage, etc.

Secondly, vegetables that can be grown at home in water will save you not only trips to gardening stores, but also money. You’ve already bought the lettuce and eaten the edible part. Saving the leftovers and soaking them in water won’t cost you anything extra, and in a couple of weeks or so you’ll have a new salad “from scratch” for free!

Last but not least, growing your own vegetable plants is an environmentally friendly activity. You can also try organic farming by starting with untreated produce and you will get a delicious, healthy and environmentally friendly harvest at the same time! If you are not yet convinced of the advantages of vegetables that can be regrown, nothing will ever convince you.

Vegetables you can effortlessly regrow at home: cabbage, bok choy, and lettuce

We’ll start with cabbages because they are among the most unpretentious representatives of vegetables that can be regrown at home from their inedible parts. You just need to cut off the bottom of its core and place it in a small, shallow container with water. This same basic approach works just as well with many very different strains.

For example, in the case of Chinese cabbage, also known as Bok Choy, new growth will start from the center in just 1 or 2 days. Given optimal growing conditions, significant growth can be seen in less than a week! So, in no time, you are sure to have a new favorite star on the Asian food scene!

Like cabbages, other leafy greens lend themselves to this same very easy and quick method of re-growing. With lettuce and other similar salad greens, simply cut off the stem and place it in a shallow container with a few tablespoons of water. Romaine lettuce is said to regrow the best, but it works just as well with Batavia, so-called Lollo Rosso, etc.

However, there are some small differences that you should keep in mind to make your “farming” work from home easier. For example, for best results with celery, you should cut the stem about 5 cm from the base.

The situation is similar with the stem ends of lemongrass: 5.5-7.5 cm will be perfectly sufficient. Finally, in the case of fennel, you only need 2.5-3 cm from the base of the bulb for new germination to begin.

Onions, leeks and garlic are undemanding and grow very quickly.

The same goes for onions, leeks and garlic – all of these are vegetables that you can regrow at home many times, they do not require special growing conditions and give fairly quick results.

By the way, avocado, ginger, basil, mint, cilantro, beetroot, carrot, among many others, can also start sprouting in water, but at a certain point, they must be transferred to the ground for their development to take place.

Finally, a general tip is to avoid water stagnation in vegetables and make sure they have enough light. Full of light also means full of heat and therefore lots of evaporation. You should therefore regularly check the amounts of water in the containers so that your plants do not dry out.

These are the results you can expect in just one week!
