Put this on your plants if you don’t want them to die.

Plants are perfect for decorating our interiors, and they also have many benefits. Decontaminating plants improve air quality and others are said to bring good luck. But to make the most of their benefits and virtues, taking care of them is essential. Find out how to take good care of your favorite green and flowering plants!

If you have plants in your home, you may not know what steps you need to take to care for them. Light, watering, repotting, and humidity are all important aspects to consider so that your indoor green plants can flourish and stay in the best possible conditions. Here’s what you need to know to have beautiful plants.

What are the needs of an indoor plant?

To understand how you should care for your indoor plants, you must first understand what they need to grow.

1) Brightness

Light and lighting   have a major influence on the health and growth of your plants. There should be a good amount of light in the room and its intensity is sufficient depending on the type of plant. Plants with large leaves need light, unlike succulents and succulents that can   grow in a little more shade   and are more resistant.

If your plant is not getting enough light, you will notice gaps between leaves, smaller than normal leaves, yellowing leaves, and slow or no flowering. On the other hand, if your plant is getting too much light and is in full sun, you will see brown spots on the leaves, the stems will dry out, and the plant may wilt.  Move your plants around to compare   their growth based on their location, but keep in mind that they also need time to acclimate.

2) Humidity

To ensure good growth, indoor plants need good humidity, especially tropical and exotic plants.  If your plant flowers slowly   or the flowers die quickly. If its leaves dry out and the plant wilts, you can be sure that your plant lacks humidity. Particularly for indoor plants, this can be due to humidity:   when you turn on the heating   in winter, plants do not tolerate dry air well.

3) water

Water is what allows plants to breathe, but it is also what ensures photosynthesis, proper circulation of nutrients and, ultimately, growth. Depending on the plants, the frequency of watering is not the same and   care must be taken not to suffocate the plant   by excess water.

1) Irrigation

To know how often to water your plants, look at the foliage: the wider it is, the more often you need to water it. During growth and flowering, typically in spring and summer, you’ll also need to water more frequently. You can also   feel the soil of the plant   to determine if it needs watering: if it’s dry, it needs water.   Use a small watering can   and room-temperature water to water your plants. You can also mist some plants that have smooth foliage.

2) Maintain good humidity

When winter comes and the air is drier due to heating, you can help your plants by grouping them together. You can also   invest in a humidifier   and place it near your indoor plants.

3) Fertilizers

During the flowering and growth period of your plants, you can use fertilizers to make your plants grow faster if you find that they are not flowering enough, the leaves are pale, and they have poor growth. You can buy nitrogen, which promotes growth, phosphorus to strengthen the roots, or potassium to strengthen and protect the stems.  Coffee grounds are also a natural fertilizer   that you can use.

4) Pruning

Pruning your plants promotes their growth and keeps them looking beautiful for as long as possible. To do it properly, use sharp scissors or pruners to avoid damaging the plants and prune off stems, wilted flowers, weeds and dead, yellowed or diseased leaves. Generally, plants are pruned during their growth period, i.e. in early spring.

5) Remove dust

It’s a simple gesture that we can tend to forget! Dust and dirt on plants can prevent them from breathing properly and can also attract pests and insects such as spiders. You can use a soft cloth moistened with filtered water for soft leaves and for more delicate plants use a small brush or paintbrush.

6) Replant

If you want to take care of your plants, especially when autumn and winter arrive, consider repotting them and changing their pot to plant the roots well inside the pot and keep the plant as healthy as possible.

Now that you know how to care for the plants you have at home, don’t wait any longer to start working in the garden!
