Avocado is an easy fruit to germinate and therefore fun to grow after tasting its pulp. We detail the steps to grow an avocado tree at home or on your balcony, without necessarily having a garden.

STEP 1: GET A LAWYER

First, you will need a lawyer. Preferably, choose an organic one.

STEP 2: GET THE KERNEL

Carefully open the avocado with a knife, being careful not to damage the pit with the blade. This is important because if you cut the seed, it will not be able to germinate.

STEP 3: GERMINATE THE AVOCADO STONE

Insert three or four toothpicks into the avocado pit. Make sure they are equidistant and placed in the middle of the core.

Then place the avocado core in a glass of water so that its round part is soaked in 2 cm of water. As you will have understood, toothpicks are used to suspend the core.

Soak the core for 2 to 6 weeks in a warm, out-of-the-sun location, adding more water if necessary.

During the soaking process, you should see the roots and stem growing. When the stem reaches 15 cm in length, cut it in half. This will have the effect of thickening the roots and promoting the development of leaves.

STEP 4: PLANTING THE GRAIN

Now it’s time to plant the core in the ground! To do this, fill a pot, ideally made of terracotta, (at least 20 cm in diameter) with nutrient-rich soil. Make a small hole in the middle of the pot and place the hole there. Make sure that its roots are well buried and that half of the core is exposed to the air.

STEP 5: LET YOUR AVOCADO TREE GROW

As for maintenance, it is necessary to keep the soil moist and water the core abundantly, without saturating it with water. In case of excessive watering, the leaves will tend to turn yellow. In this case, let the stone dry out and then water it with smaller amounts of water. On the contrary, a lack of water will result in brown and dry leaves.

That’s it, you now have your very own avocado tree! With regular watering and patience, you will notice the formation of small fruits!
