Jasmine is a tropical plant that includes around 200 different species.  It is distinctive for its scent, which is replicated in thousands of products, from teas and soaps to perfumes , and for its white flowers. In addition, it grows both as a vine and as a bush. 

If you want to plant jasmine outdoors, it is advisable to do so in spring or autumn.  This means that we must avoid extreme temperatures, neither too cold nor too hot, so that the plant takes root and begins to grow. If you do it in a pot indoors, it is easier since you can control the climate and temperature.

Having a jasmine is not difficult, but   there are some tips and tricks that will help your jasmine grow healthy and not die.

The amount of sun the plant needs will depend on the variety of jasmine you choose,  but generally speaking it needs around six hours of full sun and about two hours of partial shade.

To know if the plant is  receiving the necessary amount of sun, you can use the following as a guide:  if the jasmine does not bloom, it is likely that it does not have enough sun, and if the leaves turn brown, this means that they are burning due to excess sun.

Irrigation

It is a mistake to water jasmine every day . In fact, the amount of water needed is determined by the soil. In a dry or hot climate, you will need to water more frequently than in a humid climate. But you should check that the soil is dry before watering. In fact, it is a good idea to let the soil dry out for a day between waterings. 

If you have the plant in a pot, make sure it  has good drainage so the roots stay healthy. 

Poda

The first thing we should do when pruning is to remove dry or damaged leaves and stems  to prevent the spread of diseases in the plant.  The same goes for stems that no longer produce leaves or flowers. 

Afterwards, we will cut the flowers as soon as they have bloomed. Not only will we enjoy the scent of jasmine in our home, but  the plant will also have more energy for new flowers. 

If we prune the plant methodically,  it will grow with abundant foliage and give us more flowers. 

Clima

Jasmine is a tropical plant, so it will grow best in warm climates. For this reason, it will not survive in cold climates. When jasmine is newly planted, the ideal temperature is between 15 and 25 degrees.  Once the plant is in the ground, it can withstand lower temperatures, but never less than 5 degrees . If you have it in a pot and the temperature is less than 5 degrees, I suggest you keep it indoors.

Floor

The best soil for jasmine is a mixture of sand and clay, with good drainage and moisture. You can also use peat and bark.  The more porous the soil is, the better the jasmine will grow.  

Fertilizer

The best fertilizer for jasmine is one that contains potassium and phosphorus.  This fertilizer will make the flowering last longer . I suggest you follow the instructions of the fertilizer you choose, but in general, during its growth stage, we can use it every two weeks.
