10 common mistakes people make when washing their clothes in the washing machine

The washing machine is a practical and useful invention that most people think they have mastered. Having become a real automatism, we wash our clothes without really thinking about how we do this task. However, there are common mistakes we make when using our washing machine. Find out what it is.

In general, we know the basic principles of washing in the washing machine. So we have gotten into the habit of sorting the laundry for the washing machine according to colors, fabrics and temperatures.

However, to keep the clothing intact, some mistakes should be avoided:

1. Putting too much laundry in the machine

The first mistake is  to put too many clothes   in the washing machine. For optimal washing, it is advisable to put less so that the laundry is properly washed.

2. Add fabric softener

In reality,  adding fabric softener goes against ecological principles   and may even be unnecessary. It is advisable   to replace your fabric softener with white vinegar to take care of your laundry  .

3. Do not separate the laundry

Some stains are difficult to remove in the washing machine. This is the case with rust, blood or grease stains. Before you put the dirty clothes in the washing machine, you can  gently dab them with 90 degree alcohol  .

4. Wash all clothes at 40

We often think that washing at 40° is the best solution to avoid damaging clothes and to save energy. However, most clothes can be washed at 30°C. In addition,   bed sheets and tea towels can be washed between 40 and 60°C  .

5. Only do short cycles

Did you know that  short cycles consume much more energy than long cycles   ? It is advisable to book these cycles only if you are in a hurry.

6. Leave laundry in the machine for a longer period of time

Bacteria tend to grow in humid environments  , so if laundry is left in the washing machine for a long time,   unpleasant odors can   be released.

7. Leave buttons and zippers open

To wash your shirts, jackets and pants properly without damaging them, it is advisable    to close the buttons and   zippers  before putting them in the washing machine.

8. Neglecting the spin cycle

If you have delicate fabrics to wash  , spin them between 400 and 800  . For the rest of your laundry, you can go up to 1400 or even higher for faster drying.

9. Do not clean the washing machine

Your washing machine also needs regular maintenance. To do this,   you can clean it with white vinegar   and water and run a wash cycle. Then leave your machine open to dry properly.

10. Forgetting to empty your pockets

You’ll often notice this after you start your machine.  To make sure you don’t forget to empty the pockets  before each wash, get used to doing this as soon as you throw your clothes in the dirty laundry bin.
