Some freezer models have an option that allows automatic defrosting. However, if yours doesn’t have one, you’ll have to roll up your sleeves. But don’t panic! With a simple trick, defrosting is done in no time.

Defrost the freezer with salt

This is not such a popular technique, but it certainly works well for defrosting freezers. It simply consists of using the famous seasoning salt to take care of the inside of your appliance.

And for good reason: by simply sprinkling the ingredient on the various frosted areas, they can be made to melt.

Before proceeding with the technique, first turn off the device and let the spice act for at least 15 minutes after sprinkling salt or even coarse salt on the areas to be treated.

This time will vary depending on the type of freezer you have. Finally, you will definitely need a plastic or wooden spatula to scrape off the ice. Thanks to the salt, removing excess frost should be much easier.

All you need to do is dry the walls with a clean cloth before plugging the device back in.

Defrosting your freezer doesn’t have to be a strenuous task and luckily there is more than one defrosting method to help you out. Here is a list:

Use white vinegar to defrost the freezer

One of the most effective and practical tips is to make your own de-icer from one key product: white vinegar.

Pour equal parts alcohol and water into a spray bottle and then spray the solution into the ice blocks and walls.

Then, as soon as you notice that the frost starts to melt, wipe with a clean cloth. This way you will completely remove the frost and disinfect the device at the same time.

Defrost the freezer with rubbing alcohol

The previous solution is partially effective thanks to household alcohol. You can use it without white vinegar if the frost in your freezer seems less consistent.

To remove it, mix 1/3 water and 2/3 rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle and then spread the liquid on the problem areas. Leave it on for a few minutes, then wipe it off with a sponge and then wipe it off with a cloth.

The saucepan method for defrosting the freezer

You can also use the effect of steam to easily defrost your appliance. To do this, boil 3 liters of water in a pot and then place it on a trivet in the freezer.
