Like all everyday appliances, the freezer deserves regular maintenance to keep it working optimally. And for good reason, a freezer that contains frost can be less efficient and consume more electricity. Defrosting a freezer is certainly not an easy task, but with this trick, it will be easier to do. Follow the guide!

On some freezer models, there is an option that allows automatic defrosting. But if your device doesn’t have one, you’ll need to roll up your sleeves. But don’t panic! A simple trick allows you to defrost in no time.

Use salt to defrost the freezer

This is not as popular a technique, but it certainly works for defrosting freezers. It simply consists of using the famous condiment that is salt to maintain the interior of your device. And no wonder, the simple act of sprinkling the ingredient on the different frosty areas   is capable of melting them.

Before continuing with the technique, be sure to turn off the device first and once you have spread salt or even coarse salt on the areas to be treated, let the seasoning work for at least  15 minutes.  This time will vary depending on your type of freezer. Finally, you will definitely need a plastic or wooden spatula to scrape the ice. The salt should make removing excess frost much easier. All you have to do is use a clean cloth to dry the walls before plugging the appliance back in.

Other methods to quickly defrost the freezer

Defrosting the freezer doesn’t have to be a daunting task, and fortunately, there is more than one defrosting method to help you with this. Here is a list:

Use white vinegar to defrost the freezer

One of the most effective and practical tips is to make your own deicing product using a key product: white vinegar. Pour   equal parts isopropyl alcohol and water into a   spray bottle and spray the solution on the ice blocks and walls. Then wipe with a clean cloth as soon as you notice the frost starting to melt. Thus, it completely gets rid of frost and disinfects the device at the same time.

Defrost the freezer with isopropyl alcohol

The previous solution is partially effective thanks to isopropyl alcohol. You can use it without resorting to white vinegar if the frost in your freezer seems less consistent. To remove,   mix 1/3 water and 2/3 isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle and   then spread the liquid over problem areas. Let sit for a few minutes and then wipe with a sponge and then wipe with a cloth.

The Boiling Pot Method for Defrosting the Freezer

You can also take advantage of the steam action to easily defrost your appliance. To do this, boil 3 liters of water in a saucepan and then place it in the freezer on a trivet. Then let it sit for a quarter of an hour after closing the door   so that the steam melts the ice.   Once melted, soak up the water with a sponge and cloth and you will finally enjoy a spotless freezer.
