There are several ways to create a mosquito and fly trap, but the ones we will describe below are the best.

As  spring arrives  and summer approaches, the  nuisance insect population  grows rapidly, causing significant irritation, particularly on humid, sticky summer nights. For those bothered by flies and mosquitoes, traditional insecticides found in stores may not be  the best solution  .

These products can be harmful  to the environment  and dangerous to human health due to their harmful contaminants. Making  fly and mosquito traps  from everyday household items and organic matter is child’s play. For those interested, we have some examples to stimulate creativity.

Making a fly and mosquito trap is easy with just a few household items: a plastic bottle, some duct tape, and a  saucepan filled with sugar water  . Start by cutting the bottle just below the neck with scissors to create two parts. Place one part inside the other, creating a  funnel shape  with the mouth facing inward.

Use tape to secure the two parts in place. In a saucepan, dissolve  5 tablespoons of sugar  in the water and bring to a boil. Once the sugar has dissolved, let the mixture cool before  pouring it into the siphon  . For optimal effectiveness, leave the trap in the sun or warm it with your hands.

If you want something different than the usual sugar and water combination, try adding  an apple slice  to the bottle.

Mason jar and beer

With this option you can say goodbye to plastic waste. All you need is a  large glass jar  . Start by pouring the beer into the base of the mug. Flies and mosquitoes are attracted  to carbon dioxide  and unpleasant odors.

To maximize success, consider adding a  teaspoon of sugar  . Create a cone using a piece of paper and tape, placing it on the mouth of the jar.

This funnel structure will be effective if  it is not immersed in the beer  . Keep the trap near the fruit bowl or windowsill or place it on the table while dining outdoors.

An outdoor fly trap

For those looking for an effective outdoor trap, the solution is simple. Take an empty plastic bottle, preferably one containing  milk or detergent  , and rinse it well.

Next, pour  half a glass of sugar  into the bottle, add the vinegar through a funnel and insert a whole banana peel. After shaking the bottle, place it in the desired location, whether in the garden or on the balcony.

If you want, you can even hang it. The aroma of the mixture inside  will attract  all the insects inside. The powerful vinegar smell makes it a prime target for annoying flies. However,   Tea Tree , a natural insecticide, offers an effective alternative to repel both mosquitoes and flies.

Instead of using store-bought products, try making a trap out of a glass or jar. Combine red wine vinegar, an eco-friendly dish soap, and  5 drops  of tea tree oil in the bottom of the container.

To make the trap accessible, cover the jar  with a bag  and pierce it in the center. For best results, add  a teaspoon of honey  , sugar, or molasses.
