The remedies that we can use daily for cleaning exceed our expectations every day and although many already have state-of-the-art washing machines,  homemade tricks are always an economical and effective option.  But let’s see what adding a handful of coarse salt can do   when washing our clothes.

Clothes in the washing machine, not with fine salt: use a handful of coarse salt

Coarse salt has the ability to make water less calcareous. This gives our garments greater softness, without  increasingly using expensive chemical softeners.  This remedy  can be used on any type of fabric:  from jeans that harden with normal washing and become increasingly difficult to use, to terry towels that lose their normal softness after each wash.

Putting a handful of coarse salt in the washing machine when washing clothes helps preserve  the natural brightness of the colors  of our laundry, and also helps  avoid the yellowing  that we very often find in light and white garments. To take advantage of this remedy,  simply soak the clothes to be washed for a few hours  in a solution of water and coarse salt. Then without rinsing we can do the usual washing in the washing machine. But let’s see together how to take advantage of the benefits of salt to wash our clothes!

1. To remove stains

Salt is a perfect ingredient   to remove stains.  The ideal is to use it immediately after staining the garment. Add a tablespoon to the stain and let it sit for a few minutes. Then put the garment in a container with cold water. Leave it for 30 minutes and remove the clothes, placing them in the washing machine for a normal wash. This same procedure works to  remove rust from clothing and yellow stains.

2. To protect the color

If you have   clothes that are losing their normal color,  a handful of salt can  help restore your clothes’ natural shine.  You just have to soak the garment in a mixture of water and salt for 30 minutes. Then it should go through your normal washing process and you will see great results.

3. As a screen softener

Without a doubt, salt will be a  perfect substitute for fabric   softeners  .   You can apply it in two different ways. If you wash it by hand, you only need to soak it for 30 minutes in a mixture of water and salt. And if you do it in the washing machine, you only have to apply 4 tablespoons of salt with the liquid soap, with this trick you will obtain greater softness of the clothes.
