The plumbers’ trick to unclog pipes and eradicate bad odors

Do you often hear about the remarkable properties of baking soda? Everything is true! Many people still keep some precious ones at home. But, most ignore even half of all its uses. This favorite product of our grandmothers actually has more than one trick up its sleeve. It is a white powder, banal in appearance, but whose usefulness is inestimable. Whether it is to prepare certain dishes, exfoliate the skin, banish dirt, remove stubborn stains, neutralize bad odors or repel insects, this versatile product is really worth the money.

Today we are going to look at a common and very worrying situation: a clogged sink in the kitchen. To save costs and not call a specialist, you can count on the performance of baking soda. Here’s how to avoid this inconvenience and solve the problem according to the advice of Ritchy Hallows, plumber and director of the EPC renovation company    in Toulouse.

Why put baking soda in the sink?

We shouldn’t even introduce it anymore. If there is a multi-purpose product that you should always have in abundance at home, it is this one! Environmentally friendly and economical, baking soda is known for its cleaning, stain removing, degreasing and deodorizing properties. Therefore, it will be particularly useful for unbuttoning clothes, disinfecting appliances and even unclogging smelly pipes. In fact, this natural mineral compound can dissolve mineral deposits and greasy materials that often cause clogging in pipes. And this, thanks to its disinfectant power that cleans the entire area and effectively fights against bacteria and fungi, often responsible for the bad odors that escape.

Perfect alternative to usual products, this powdered substance is environmentally friendly and non-aggressive for the skin. You can safely use it for both your personal hygiene and housework at home. Also, when pouring 250 mg of   baking soda   into the sink and 250 ml of white vinegar, leave it for 20 minutes before pouring hot water to rinse. This way you can prevent the formation of grease in the drain pipes, unclog the pipes and eliminate bad odors. Plus, by regularly cleaning your sink with this combo, make sure you keep it fresh, healthy, and clean.

Note   : We recommend that you equip the sink with a drain strainer to prevent waste and food debris from falling into the drain.

How to remove grease buildup in the sink?

With constant use, over time, the kitchen sink accumulates a lot of dirt and food debris. It is not uncommon for water to not drain properly or for the drain to end up clogged.

To prevent a possible clog: Pour a cup of baking soda into the sink. After a few minutes, add some boiling water. In this way, all the grease present will dissolve, thus preventing it from accumulating until the   pipes end up becoming clogged.

Do you often face the problem of a clogged drain? We advise you to avoid the use of chemical detergents. Instead, use this very effective natural method based on baking soda and white vinegar. The latter is also known for its cleaning and disinfecting properties. Both will form a powerful duo to unblock the situation.

These are the steps to follow:

  • First, heat the water to the boiling point. Once it starts to boil, add some grease-fighting dish detergent.
  • Gently pour this mixture into the sink.
  • Next, pour a cup of baking soda down the drain. Leave it on for ten minutes. Then, pour a cup of distilled white vinegar into   the sink  , you will immediately notice the formation of a foam. It’s a normal process, don’t worry!
  • This bubbling reaction indicates that the remedy is working correctly: the substances introduced into the drain will effectively remove the grease clog.
  • Then rinse the entire sink area. Wipe with a clean, damp cloth. You will immediately notice the difference: the fluidity of the water is very noticeable.

Remember, the best way to keep your drains working is to clean them regularly.

NOTE   : If the smell of vinegar bothers you, feel free to add a few drops of lavender or peppermint essential oil. This will decrease the strong sour smell and leave a pleasant smell in the kitchen.
