Mold on the windowsill

Why does mold attack certain areas of the house?

Whether old or new, first of all, know that no home is immune to the appearance of mold spots. Certain conditions favor their development… Humidity is the main cause of this inconvenience, so it is important  to find the source, treat it and prevent it.  You should also know that the humidity problem can be due to poor ventilation in the house, the infiltration of rainwater, water damage, a water leak or even poor waterproofing of the shower and   walls  .

What preventive measures can you take to avoid mold at home?

Since the goal is to reduce the humidity in the home, preventive measures must therefore be taken. Certain reflexes must be adopted on a daily basis. Fighting this scourge is not an easy task and taking the right steps would be your ultimate weapon.

  • Ventilating the house is essential  to purify the air in the house, even if you do not have a humidity problem at home. 45 minutes is enough to circulate the air and prevent mold. You can also use mechanical ventilation if ventilation is not enough.
  • Avoid  hanging clothes indoors as this will worsen the moisture problem.
  • Treat the cracks in the walls and, if necessary, carry out insulation work to avoid the mold problem, especially in winter.

How do you remove mold?

You’ve tried many conventional products and you’re not satisfied! They’re expensive, toxic and the results aren’t there. Regardless, you can suppress the spread of mold with simple, easy-to-use treatments.

  • Borax and vinegar, a successful combination to combat mold

Mix in a spray bottle:

  • 2 tablespoons borax
  • ¼ cup white vinegar
  • 2 cups hot water

Apply the mixture to areas at risk of mold and leave for 60 minutes. Rub with a sponge, then rinse and dry with a clean cloth.

  • Goodbye to baking soda, soapy water and mold

Prepare a paste of baking soda by mixing a cup of this powder with a little water and then apply it to the mold-affected areas. Leave it for an hour and then scrub with a stiff bristle brush. Then follow with a soapy solution to complete the cleaning. Then rinse off the cleaning by spraying vinegar water to permanently eliminate mold and black spots. Wipe with a clean, dry cloth and let it dry by airing the room. Other ingredients such as ethyl alcohol or ammonia can also work against mold.

Caution: Protect yourself with gloves and a mask before tackling this particularly delicate cleaning task to avoid inhaling the harmful spores.
