Sometimes  plants  can be precious allies to have at home.  In fact, some of them are fireproof, that is, they resist fire or limit the development of combustion  . Therefore, we can say that some plants manage to contain fires and are not so rare. Chances are you have one in your garden and don’t know it.

What plants are resistant to fire?

Let’s see together which plants are capable of resisting fire:

Lives

The vine is a fireproof plant and in fact the vines act as real barriers  . However, even though it is fireproof, it will be the ripe fruit but the leaves that will suffer damage. The plants themselves will also suffer damage, especially those that are smaller and growing. However, if there are dry leaves, they will undoubtedly catch fire.

The arrangement of the vines is really essential to ensure that the plants are not damaged because otherwise the entire crop will be affected. In fact  , vines that have been closely burned produce a wine that has smoky notes  . To do this, it is necessary to maintain a space of at least 10 meters between the vineyards and everything that surrounds them, whether forests or houses.

olive

The olive tree is also a fire-resistant plant. Especially the older ones that also have very good wind resistance.  These are capable of regenerating even if their branches or trunks are destroyed  . In fact, olive trees are usually placed in fire-prone areas precisely for prevention.

green cypress

This tree is also fireproof and this is demonstrated by a fire that broke out in Valencia where all the trees present in that forested area caught fire, pines, oaks, junipers, except the green cypresses.  What makes them fire resistant is the hydrophobic fabric  . This covers both the branches and leaves.

The burning rate of a cypress is about seven times slower than that of a pine  . Not even dry leaves catch fire and the mantle on the ground manages to create a protective barrier capable of retaining water. In this way the risk of fire is significantly lower.

Carob

The carob is a typically Mediterranean plant and is fireproof  . In fact, this woody plant resists fires and is therefore a true defense against them.
