Potted Strawberries: Everyone is crazy about this delicious idea, here’s how to do it

Strawberries inevitably correspond to the fruit of summer, since they begin to “appear” on supermarket shelves in spring and remain there until the end of summer, in most cases. It is a   false fruit  , which over the centuries has been “crossed” several times to obtain a larger, although less tasty, version than the “wild” variant. Growing strawberries in a pot is not such a complicated task; on the contrary, it can give great satisfaction as well as a concrete contribution in terms of fruits.

They are now considered adaptive fruits and are designed to grow well even in temperate contexts. They must be protected from frost and in general prefer soils that are not too compact, rich in organic and especially nutritious substances, with a pH that is not too acidic.

It is always advisable, at least at the beginning, to focus on the growth of an existing strawberry plant, to avoid a rather long and complex planting for novices.

It is enough to arrange the soil as described, placed inside a fairly large pot (30-40 cm in diameter), with a saucer, and which must have pebbles or chips at the base so that a layer of about 5 cm high is more draining. .

If the plant is in good condition, it will take little time to take root, at least at first it will be enough to leave it half a day in the sun and half a day in the shade to allow constant and non-invasive growth.

Strawberries suffer from stagnant water, so it is a good idea to water the soil only in the early morning hours to avoid evaporation, especially in very muggy periods.

The  ideal PH  should correspond to values between 5.5 and 6.5, and it is very important to choose the fertilizer or compost carefully from the different categories (there are several types on the market).

Plants should be protected from frost with a plastic sheet
