You’ve tried several times to keep a houseplant alive, and despite your best efforts, you always get the same result. The leaves of your plants have withered or your plant has unfortunately completely dried out and you don’t understand it. It’s obvious that you don’t have good gardening hands. Why not opt ​​for indoor plants that require very little maintenance?

We have prepared for you a list of ten plants that do not require a lot of water and are almost self-sufficient.

What are low water indoor plants?

These plants are easy to maintain and therefore allow you to carry out your various occupations.

1- Sago palm or Japanese sago

Japanese cica, Japanese sago or even sagoutier… that is the nickname for this small shrub native to the Land of the Rising Sun.  This indoor plant    will provide an exotic touch that will dress every room in your home in an original way. The Japanese sago will be in its element in a bright place with a temperature between 20 and 22°C. This beautiful plant also appreciates humidity and for good flowering it is recommended to water it with mineral water at least every fifteen days. In winter, you can let it dry out a couple of centimeters before watering it again. Be sure to keep your pets away from your plant because it is poisonous. It produces a neurotoxic amino acid that makes it dangerous.

2- Language of the mother-in-law

Choose mother-in-law’s tongue for its original bloom. With its resistant foliage, this houseplant will delight even the laziest. It does not have a stem which makes its maintenance much easier. To grow this beautiful plant, it is not necessary to water it regularly. Moderate watering is recommended from May to September, but from October onwards the plant enters a state of dormancy and you can definitely stop watering it from December onwards. After this vegetative rest, resume watering at the beginning of March until new root growth occurs.

3- Orchids

Orchids are    very resistant tropical flowers. This variety of plants has more than 25,000 species that form the richest family in the plant world. These flowers of different colors should be placed in a ventilated and bright place without direct sun. It is not necessary to overwater orchids. It is recommended to immerse the vase of these indoor flowers in a tub of water for about fifteen minutes. Then drain it before putting it back. For optimal blooming of your butterfly flowers, avoid placing them near radiators and other heat sources.

4- Elephant’s foot

Also called Beaucarnea, this small indoor tree does not require much maintenance. It likes to be placed in a bright place and in a fairly narrow pot. He doesn’t like having too much space. It requires very little water because its stems store water to serve as a reservoir in case of drought. To make the elephant’s foot grow, it is enough to water it once or twice a month in case of strong heat and in winter it is useless to water it. This houseplant prefers lack of water to excess water.

5- Chlorophytum hairy or spider plant

The hairy chlorophytum or spider plant can go a week without water.  These green indoor plants    will be in their environment in a bright place but without direct exposure to the sun. Ideally, place it in a hanging vase to highlight its ribbon-shaped fallen foliage. Very resistant, it tolerates drought better than excess water. Its nutrient-rich roots are capable of storing water and allow watering to be spaced out.

6- Las Zamioculcas or plant ZZ

Zamioculcas is a wonderful houseplant because it does not require much attention. Ideal as a decorative object, the ZZ plant does not like to receive a large amount of water.  It will grow easily    in a bright location near a window with full sun exposure. Good news for those who tend to forget to water their beautiful plants because zamioculcas do not like to be watered too much. It will be content with a soil that is always moist and with non-calcareous water.

7- Kalanchoe daigremontiana

Nicknamed the mother of thousands, it has foliage adorned with small green and brown plants. This plant native to Madagascar is very easy to grow. It should be placed in a bright place, away from cold drafts. This succulent does not require much watering. Give it water so that its soil is always dry between two waterings.

8- Aglaonema

This indoor plant attracts everyone’s attention thanks to its original foliage in variegated red and green tones. It should be grown in a bright place but not directly exposed to the sun. To preserve the beauty of its leaves, it will do best in a place with a temperature above 14°C. Your soil should never dry out completely, so it is recommended to water it periodically. But you can let it breathe for a week or two while the soil dries.

9- Pothos

Pothos appreciates bright places but should not be exposed to direct light. Its green leaves with cream touches make this indoor plant an ideal decorative object for your home. It is not very thirsty for water and you can space out watering until its soil is dry.

10- Succulents

This type of succulent plants are recognized by their thick and fleshy leaves, like cacti for example. These indoor plants are perfect because they do not require much maintenance. Its thick foliage has the ability to store water to withstand long periods of drought. With these succulents you can go on vacation without risks.
