Beyond this advice, you should take into account certain parameters that can guide you in relation to the maintenance and longevity of your plants.

Whether for inside the house or for your balcony, it is important to identify the type of each plant. Please note that each of them has its own specific characteristics and needs. Some will need a lot of light, others less, direct or indirect exposure to the sun. There are those that require a lot of water and those that cannot stand humidity. Some prefer top watering, while others need to be watered from their base.

If you notice any abnormalities or notice that your plant is not growing properly, there may be some gaps in its maintenance: keep in mind that plants sometimes have unexpected or unusual needs. It may need to be fertilized more or perhaps   it has grown too much and needs pruning. Also check if the light conditions have changed or if it has increased in size, in which case a change of pot is necessary.

Use natural fertilizers

If you are not very fond of chemical products that pollute the environment, you can alternate from time to time with natural and ecological ingredients that make perfect fertilizers for your plants.

Here are some:

– Coffee grains

Rich in phosphorus, nitrogen, magnesium and potassium, coffee grounds are a particularly interesting fertilizer for plants, as they provide them with the nutrients they need. Also, when you brew your coffee, don’t throw away the filter. Instead, use it to spread over potting mix or mix it into soil. But don’t overdo it either!

– Eggshells

Didn’t you imagine that these shells were beneficial for your plants? And yet, they are ideal for balancing the pH of compost. In addition, they neutralize the acidity of certain fruits and vegetables thanks to their high calcium content. That’s not all: they provide carbon, magnesium and phosphorus to plants. Don’t throw them away! Break them into small pieces and spread them on the soil around the roots. Special mention: eggshells can hurt some parasites that won’t dare go through it again!

– Banana peels

Did you use to throw away banana peels? What a shame, they are full of nutrients that promote the growth of your plants. In fact, they are rich in fiber, starch, vitamins (A, B and C) and nitrogenous proteins. Banana peel helps a lot in flowering. Therefore, it is a powerful ecological and organic fertilizer that will do your plants a lot of good.

– The grass after mowing the grass

You should place the herb in a bucket and add water to moisten it completely. Let it sit for a whole day. Then pour the solution into a spray bottle and spray your plants. This way they will benefit from a good amount of nitrogen.

Please note  : Plants should never be pruned when they are flowering. The best time to do this is when the flowers have wilted or are about to fall. Therefore, they should be cut just below the knot.

Remember that many plants do not tolerate excess water: they stop growing and get sick quickly, not to mention the stems and leaves that darken or turn yellow. Then you will probably have to change the soil or transplant it.

Before watering, always observe the plant to check whether it is lacking water or not. How to know? You should place your finger about a centimeter from the surface to see if the soil is dry or wet.
