A toenail is ingrown when the lateral edge grows on the flesh of the skin, causing pain and infection. Known as onychocryptosis, an ingrown toenail can be caused by shoes that are too tight, mistakes in shortening the nails, or various injuries.
People who suffer from diabetes or circulatory problems are more prone to ingrown toenails. Below we suggest some DIY remedies to relieve and treat ingrown toenails naturally.
Hot water
Soak your feet in warm water for 15 to 20 minutes several times a day. Helps relieve inflammation and pain.
Epsom Salt
Pour 1 tablespoon of Epsom salt into a basin full of warm water and soak your feet in it for 15 minutes, then rinse well. Repeat 3 to 4 times a week to reduce inflammation caused by ingrown toenails.
Apple cider vinegar
Mix two equal amounts of apple cider vinegar and hot water, and soak the nail in it for at least 20 minutes, then dry well.
Hydrogen peroxide
Soak your feet in a solution of two equal parts water and hydrogen peroxide. Repeat once or twice a day.
To prevent the appearance of ingrown toenails, try to cut them into a curved shape, making them coincide with the shape of your toe. Maintain proper hygiene and try to avoid wearing closed or overly tight shoes.
