Alternative methods and practices against sciatica
Exercises and manual therapy for sciatica
Exercise is probably the last thing people who have sciatica have any desire to do, but this kind of activity is actually really important.
Lying constantly in bed can make the pain much stronger and longer.
Exercise helps to increase blood flow to the damaged nerve, this helps to remove a large percentage of the chemicals responsible for the inflammatory response.
A light walk in the park or around your home for 15-20 minutes may be enough.
If walking is too painful, try other ways such as swimming. When you are in the water, the pressure on your back is minimal.
You may need to see a therapist who will recommend a type of stretching exercise to restore spinal flexibility or movements that help stabilize the spine and reduce the likelihood of injury.
Massage
Massage is very effective in treating the sciatic nerve, as well as muscle spasms and numbness of the legs and body.
It helps relax the tight muscles in the lower back and buttocks, which further contribute to the pressure on the nerve roots.
Massage stimulates the release of endorphins, which act as natural pain relievers.
An effective 10-minute treatment for sciatic nerve pain
Fill a suitable container (bucket, basin, trough) with 10 liters of hot water, making sure that your feet can withstand the temperature of the water.
Add a handful of sea salt and a quart of organic apple cider vinegar.
Stir until the salt dissolves.
Dip your feet in the bowl and let them soak until the water is warm.
When the water starts to cool, take your feet out, wrap them in a towel, and dry them.
