Radiators are indispensable elements in our homes, they keep them warm and, since their invention, they have drastically improved the quality of our lives.

These are, however, “static” elements that tend to accumulate a lot of dust, which can make them less performing as well as being a problem if we suffer from some allergy or other respiratory problems.

Cleaning the radiator is very important before and during the cold months, and below we suggest how to do it.

To clean the outside of aluminium radiators, simply wipe them with a microfibre cloth. Once the dust has been removed, moisten the cloth with warm water, a little vinegar and a few drops of soap and wipe it over the surface. This last operation helps remove mites and dirt.

Cleaning the inside of the radiator is a bit more complex.

The first step is to remove dust build-up between the radiator fins. To do this, we suggest using a vacuum cleaner with a thin nozzle, which can fit between the slots in the radiator. Insert the spout on one side, and try to close the other end to generate a “suck” effect.

If this method is not applicable, you can try inserting a fairly long tool between the slots, to which a microfiber cloth must be tied.

In a bucket, mix warm water with white vinegar, baking soda and a little soap. Dampen a cloth and try to pass it where possible between the cracks in the radiator. Finally, use a dry cloth to remove any residue and dirt.
