Would you like to access multiple TV channels without having to pay for expensive subscriptions?

This project will allow you to build a homemade antenna using common elements, such as coaxial cable and a splitter.

By following these steps, you will be able to enjoy a stable and good quality signal, ideal if you are 10-15 km from a transmitting antenna.

Materials Needed

• RG6 type coaxial cable: 2 sections (one of 75 cm and another of 61.5 cm).
• Splitter: It is available in hardware stores or electronics stores.
• Type F connectors: 2 units.
• Cutter, pliers or scissors.
• Clothes peg.
• Hot silicone (optional).

Procedure

1. Cable preparation:
   • Cut two lengths of coaxial cable: one 75 cm and one 61.5 cm.
   • On the 75 cm cable, measure 4.5 cm from one end and mark. Then, remove the outer insulation and clear the mesh, taking care not to damage the central conductor. Do the same with the opposite end, but removing only 1.2 cm to attach the F-type connector.
2. 75 cm cable connection:
   • Place the F-type connector on the prepared end. Check that the mesh does not touch the center conductor, as this will cause a short circuit.
3. Preparing the 61.5 cm cable:
   • Mark 7.2 cm from one end and remove the insulation, following the same procedure as on the 75 cm cable. Repeat on the opposite end with a 1.2 cm mark for the F-type connector.
4. Formation of the dipoles:
   • Bend the end of the center conductor to 90 degrees and use a circular object (diameter 7-10 cm) to roll it into a ring. Make sure the circle is perfect.
   • At the other end, insert the tip of the conductor between the mesh and the external insulator, taking care that it does not touch the central conductor.
5. Final assembly:
   • Connect both cables to the splitter and place the antenna near a window or outside. To protect it from moisture, apply hot silicone to the connections.
6. Settings and Placement:
   • If you want to improve reception, add a reflector about 17 cm from the antenna. This step is optional, but it can increase signal stability.

Tips for a better result

• Avoid stormy days: Disconnect the antenna to prevent damage from atmospheric discharges.
• Try different positions: Placing the antenna in high places or near windows improves reception.
• Take care of the connections: Check that no filament in the mesh touches the center conductor.
