A homemade insecticide is a strategy that will not only save you money, but will also be safe if you have children or pets.

HOMEMADE INSECTICIDE: WHAT IS IT USED FOR?

Natural and non-toxic: A homemade insecticidal spray could be effective in repelling different types of insects. After all, as soon as the good weather returns, insects are ready to invade the garden and unfortunately also the terraces and houses. However, buying chemical insecticides is not always a good idea. Indeed, they could be harmful to the health of human beings and that of the garden.

Fortunately, this can be remedied by creating a natural, non-toxic insecticidal spray that all pests hate. This homemade spray is very simple to make. All you need are essential oils. It can be used directly on plants, for example those infested with aphids. Let’s see how to prepare it.

What to use

Now let’s move on to the preparation of this natural insecticide. You will need 500 ml of water, 500 ml of witch hazel (which you can find in herbalists), 10 drops of spearmint and peppermint essential oils (for ants). Next, you’ll need a vaporizer, preferably made of glass. The first thing to do is to fill the sprayer with half a liter of water. Then add the witch hazel. Add 5 drops of each essential oil. Shake the mixture well and spray directly on the plants. You will see that insects, such as ants, will flee immediately.

This homemade spray is therefore adaptable to any type of pest. Indeed, against each insect, there is an effective mixture of essential oils. Simply change the essential oils in the recipe above. For example, against aphids, the essential oils to use are: cedar, fennel, spearmint, peppermint. Against beetles: peppermint and thyme.

If fleas are tormenting you, use peppermint, lemongrass, spearmint, and lavender. Are flies your pet peeve? Use lavender, peppermint, rosemary, and sage. Against gnats, mix patchouli and spearmint. Cedar, peppermint, spearmint are useful against lice

Now let’s come to the insect that torments us the most in summer: mosquitoes, which can be fought thanks to lavender and lemongrass. Moths do not tolerate cedar, fennel, lavender, peppermint, and pennymint. Spearmint and peppermint can counteract psylliodes. Snails do not tolerate essential oils of cedar, fennel, and pine. For snails: cedar, pine, patchouli and against spiders: peppermint and spearmint. Finally, ticks can be fought by lavender, lemongrass, sage and thyme.

Essential oils can be found in herbalists, even in packages containing different oils.
