Sansevieria trifasciata (also known as Dracaena trifasciata) is one of the most widespread and appreciated houseplants, especially because of its extraordinary resistance to all climatic or humidity conditions.

In fact, this plant can last for several years in any corner of the house, no matter how much light or water it receives.

The discourse changes though if you want Sansevieria to thrive. This plant only blooms under certain conditions, and it can offer us a real spectacle.

Getting sansevieria to bloom is difficult, but certainly not impossible. Just try to replicate the climatic conditions of its natural habitat, and below we explain how to do it.

Watering

Sansevieria is not watered daily, as it is prone to rot. Water little and only when the soil is completely dry.

During the winter, water only a few times a month, no more.

Light

The ideal location for a sansevieria plant is near a well-lit window, so that its leaves can develop healthy and strong and have a very green color.

Sansevieria’s growth is slow and will only produce 3 or 4 leaves per year. If the leaves bend, it is a sign that the plant needs more light.

Waist

Never cut off the tips of the leaves. Sansevieria does not need to be pruned. Only remove dried leaves to prevent them from developing diseases.

Fertilizer

Apply a little fertilizer in late spring and early summer, once a month, until fall arrives.

Use a flower fertiliser, which is rich in the nutrients needed for the sansevieria to bloom. This plant blooms in late summer and will produce flowers that smell like vanilla.

Sansevieria is not only a wonderful plant to decorate, but it is also useful for purifying the air in the house and, if you can make it bloom, it can perfume the whole house.
