Avocado is one of the most nutritious and delicious fruits. It has excellent properties that help protect and improve our health, being rich in vitamins such as A, C and group B, and nutrients such as folic acid and potassium.

In addition, avocado helps reduce cholesterol and triglycerides, improve eyesight, optimize the functioning of the heart and digestive system. In short, there are a thousand and one reasons to consume more avocados, but there is only one deterrent: it is very expensive.

Avocado is imported from very distant lands and this journey, in addition to being negative for the environment, also affects the final cost.

Where can I grow avocados?
First of all, you need to choose a place on the terrace or in the garden that is well exposed to the sun: avocados love sunlight and it is essential for their growth. If you don’t have a terrace or a garden, choose a place near a window to grow avocados at home.

Avoid cold climates or places with very low minimum temperatures that can be harmful to the avocado plant. As for the soil, make sure it is rich in nutrients and has a low pH.

How to plant an avocado in a pot?
Take an avocado seed, wash it well and insert three toothpicks to create a support that keeps it suspended above a vase filled with water. This operation will allow the roots of the avocado to develop and strengthen to support the weight of the plant.

Place the pot in a well-ventilated place exposed to the sun. Once the stem of the plant has grown and reached a height of 15 centimeters, cut it leaving about 7 centimeters. This way the stem will become stronger and will grow more roots and new leaves.

As soon as the first leaves appear, you can put the plant in a pot.

Remove the toothpicks from the seed and place the plant in a pot filled with potting soil. Cut the leaves when the stem is over 15 centimeters tall. Leaves that are over 30 centimeters tall should be cut off.

Technique for growing an avocado tree
The tree will start to grow and the next step is to wait for it to produce fruit (this takes about 5 or 6 months). However, avocado trees do not produce fruit easily and can take years.

A good technique you can use to speed up this process is to perform a graft. A lateral cut is made to the plant to allow more stems to grow.
