A Vegetable Masterpiece
It is widely proven that having plants and taking care of them is beneficial for health. Not only do they relax, but plants, with their colors and characteristics, can release beneficial substances for our body, from perfume to oxygen.
Nature is able to surprise us with many plants with amazing shapes and colors. In this case, we will focus on a plant that does not require much care. Being a succulent plant, in fact, it is quite simple to grow and could be perfect even for those who do not have a green thumb.
Its scientific name is Senecio Peregrinus, but it is commonly known as dolphin plant. It is a succulent plant that owes its common name to the shape of its leaves.
Being a succulent plant, it does not require much care as it is particularly resistant. In addition, its stem and its fleshy leaves collect the water that the plant needs to survive even during short periods of drought.
Characteristics
The fleshy leaves of Senecio Peregrinus resemble dolphins tied together like a necklace. In fact, another name it is known by is the Flying Dolphin Plant because, apparently, the drooping stems seem to make the dolphins that are its leaves fly.
Senecio Peregrinus can reach a length of about 50 cm in its first year. It usually blooms between May and June, producing small white flowers very similar to Gypsophila paniculata, commonly known as bridal veil.
If you want to grow this plant at home, you should know that it is perfect for both indoors and outdoors. It prefers to be placed in a very bright place, but not in direct sunlight. It is better if the sun reaches the plant directly for only a few hours a day. As for the location, it would be best to place it in a humid room of the house, such as a bathroom or kitchen.
Since the stems hang, the perfect pot is a hanging pot to give them the chance to grow properly. Alternatively, you can place it on marble walls or windows. Be careful of other elements that could damage it: frost in winter and excessive heat from stoves and radiators.
