It had been six years since I had left the Grant mansion with an old suitcase and dry eyes from crying. That abandoned woman no longer existed. The person who got off the plane that afternoon was Dr. Elena Parker<\/strong>, a postdoctoral researcher at Harvard and guest director of an international biomedical project. By my side, holding hands, came my two greatest achievements: Noah and Lily, the twins I raised alone on the other side of the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was convinced that I was coming back on my own terms. But as soon as we crossed the VIP exit of the airport, the past blocked my way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A meeting that should not have happened<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Before returning, I was not na\u00efve. He knew that Adrian Grant was powerful and that his empire could not be competed with using fury. That’s why I came back armed with documents:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The apartment I rented was close to the institute, with security, cameras and two exits. Noah checked the locks upon arrival. Lily asked if the man at the airport knew our address. I answered them with the truth that a child can hold: no one would take them without my permission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The legal offensive<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    That same night, when the twins fell asleep, I called Rachel. Their plan was immediate: to file a precautionary request to prevent any transfer of the children, send an official letter warning against unauthorized contact, and channel all communication through lawyers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The messages did not take long to arrive. Thirty missed calls. Messages from the attendee demanding a meeting at ten in the morning. And a direct one from Adrian: “Elena, I’m going to see you tomorrow.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I replied with a single sentence: “All communication will be through my lawyers.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    At a quarter past nine the reception of the building rang. Adrian was downstairs with a team of lawyers and gifts for the kids. I asked the doorman to return them all. Minutes later, Rachel confirmed to me that Adrian’s legal team had contacted hers demanding a paternity test, access to the children, and an explanation for having “hidden” their existence. They even hinted at requesting urgent measures alleging “flight risk”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    A different woman from the one six years ago<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Adrian believed he could get back what he had discarded as easily as he let it go. But the woman he faced now was not the silenced wife who signed without asking for anything.
