Tomato leaves are rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, three essential elements for plant growth, as well as trace elements and minerals.

In addition to its nutrient richness, tomato manure also has repellent and fungicidal properties.

It allows to effectively fight against certain garden diseases and parasites, such as powdery mildew, powdery mildew or aphids. In addition, it promotes the growth, flowering and fruiting of plants, for a generous and flourishing garden.

Preparing tomato puree: a simple recipe within everyone’s reach

To make your own tomato manure, you will first need to harvest the tomato leaves.

You can use the healthy leaves of your tomato plants, but also those that show signs of disease or pest attacks, as the fermentation process will neutralize pathogens.

Once you’ve gathered enough sheets, follow these steps:

Washing the leaves: Tomato leaves should be washed thoroughly before use, to remove any traces of pesticides or contamination. To do this, simply pass them under running water.

Cut the leaves: To facilitate fermentation, cut the leaves into medium pieces with a knife or pruning shears.

Fermentation: Place the cut leaves in a large container (bucket, tank, can, etc.), compressing them slightly. Then fill the container with rainwater or non-chlorinated water, at the rate of about 10 liters of water per 1 kg of leaves. Mix everything well and cover the container with a cloth or a perforated lid, to allow the preparation to breathe, protecting it from insects.

Fermentation: Let the preparation ferment for about 10 to 15 days, stirring regularly (every 2 to 3 days). Fermentation is complete when the preparation has a characteristic smell (quite unpleasant) and the bubbles have disappeared.

Filtration and conservation: Filter tomato manure using a sieve or a fine cloth, in order to recover the liquid. Store in airtight bottles or containers, protected from light and heat. The tomato manure thus obtained can be preserved for several months.

Using Tomato Manure for a Healthy Garden

Tomato manure is a versatile fertilizer that can be used on many garden plants, such as vegetables, flowers, shrubs, and fruit trees.

Here are some tips for getting the most out of this valuable natural fertilizer:

Watering: Dilute the liquid tomato in rainwater or non-chlorinated water, at the rate of one dose of liquid liquid per 10 to 20 doses of water (i.e., a dose of approximately 5 to 10%). Then water the base of the plants generously, being careful not to wet the foliage. Watering with tomato puree can be done once or twice a month, depending on the needs of the plants.

Spraying: To fight diseases and parasites, you can also spray slightly diluted tomato manure (about 5%) directly onto the foliage of the plants. This application creates a protective and repellent barrier, while providing nutrients directly assimilated by the leaves.

Basal fertilizer: Tomato manure can also be used as a basal fertilizer when planting or transplanting plants. To do this, mix one dose of tomato manure with 3 or 4 doses of potting soil or compost, and incorporate this mixture into the planting soil.

Tomato slurry is a natural and environmentally friendly fertiliser that does not pose any risk of groundwater contamination or ecosystem imbalance.

In addition, it does not present any danger to the health of plants, animals or humans, as long as the doses and precautions for use are respected.

Tomato manure is a natural, economical and effective fertilizer, which will allow you to take care of your garden while respecting the environment and everyone’s health.

Do not hesitate to try this simple and accessible method, and share your experience with other gardening enthusiasts, in order to promote ecological and sustainable practices in our gardens.

Tomato manure, a natural fertilizer with multiple virtues Tomato manure is a 100% natural fertilizer, obtained from the fermentation of tomato leaves.
