The tip to bring it back to life in 5 minutes.

Is your orchid dying? The yellow leaves, the smelly grey roots… We need to act urgently! But how? Here I will help you decipher the signs of illness in your plant… …and then provide it with the care it needs.

You’ll see, it’s very simple. But before you do everything you can to save your dying plant, you need to know what it is suffering from.

NOTICE
Here are the main symptoms of a dying orchid:

My orchid is very soft

Does your plant have soft, wrinkled leaves that fall along the pot? It’s probably because it has had too much water.

How to save it?

Pour out excess water by turning the pot over.

Once the water has drained, remove the plant from the pot and check the roots.

Cut off any rotten, brown or blackened roots.

Remove all dirt and waterlogged shavings.

Repot the orchid with dry potting soil and in a pot with holes to allow the water to drain.

Although it is a tropical plant, it does not need a lot of water. My advice: I spray it every 2 days in dry periods. That is, in summer or winter, when the heating dries the air. Otherwise, I only water it once a week.

My orchid has yellowed and dry leaves

The Phalaenopsis orchid is very expressive. You notice very quickly when something is wrong with it. If the leaves turn yellow and dry, it is probably because the plant lacks water. Additional sign: its roots turn gray.

How to save it?
In this case, bathe the orchid:

Fill a basin with water.

Immerse the pot in water for 45 minutes.

Take it out and let it drain.

Put the plant back in its place. Because they have thick leaves, we tend to think of orchids as succulents.

That’s why we forget to water them. The right frequency is 1 to 2 times a week, depending on whether it is very hot and dry in your house.

My orchid has yellow leaves

A yellowed orchid tells you that its living conditions are not optimal. Too hot, too much or too little water, illness, direct sunlight…

Check all these points before it is too late and its condition worsens. My advice: look at the watering. Often it is the excess water stagnating in the pot that causes this result.

My orchid has white areas

Don’t look, it’s sunburn. Probably because the plant is in direct contact with the sun’s rays. And it hates it!

There is only one solution: put the orchid in a bright place but without direct sunlight. If necessary, cut off excessively damaged leaves.

My orchid has no leaves

As you can imagine, this is not good news! Because the leaves allow the plant to live. The first thing we need to do is understand why it has lost its leaves.

Parasites, disease, heat stroke, excess water. If it has only lost a few leaves and the flowers have wilted, it may be because flowering has finished and it has exhausted itself. In this case, repot and add some fertilizer.

If it has lost all its leaves and only the core remains… I’m afraid that will be the end. It is probably dead. You can always continue to water it normally, you never know. If the roots are healthy, it can start again.

My orchid has small white bugs on its leaves

Bring out the big guns: these are mealybugs. A beautiful piece of garbage that will infest all the plants around it if you don’t do anything.

So here’s my tip:

How to save it?

Isolate the affected plant.

Run the plant under running water to remove any excess life.

Soak a cotton swab in white vinegar.

Dab any remaining mealybugs to kill them.

Don’t forget the areas under the leaves and between the roots. 6. Repeat every 4 days until all the eggs and larvae are defecated. Also remember to check the plants around to see if they are not contaminated.

Why do I put my orchids outside?
An orchid that blooms every year gets tired, especially in our apartments that are too hot or too dry. So I found a trick to get as close as possible to its normal living conditions and cheer it up.

From the end of May to the end of September, I put my pots outside. But not just like that! The pots are placed in the shade of a larger plant or under a shrub. The important thing is that the leaves are in the shade

stand.

I leave them here for 4 months. As in their natural habitat, they get moisture from the dew. They do not need watering.

From the first cold nights, I bring them in… and then: surprise! A few weeks later, a stem with buds appears. I think they love their “holiday”.

Is your orchid dying? The yellow leaves, the smelly grey roots… We need to act urgently!
