A handful is enough and you’re done: there’s no turning back.

Creating a vegetable garden is neither easy nor quick. It takes time, dedication and a lot of patience . If you have tomatoes in your garden, this article is for you. Growing tomatoes has strict rules that must be respected. In addition to all the basic rules to obtain some results, it is good to know some secrets that can certainly facilitate the process and lead to a more satisfactory result. We believe that simple treatments such as water and the right amount of sun exposure are enough. It is not so.

For an optimal result, it is essential to intervene by using certain ingredients. These are obviously natural ingredients or ingredients that must not be harmful to our tomatoes or to ourselves. It is precisely the latter that makes our harvest tastier, more beautiful and more nutritious. Let’s find out together which ingredient we should add to the soil in which we have planted our tomatoes.

Vegetable garden and tomatoes: How it works

Growing tomatoes means growing them independently and having a fruit available without worrying about its origin or quality. Eating produce from your own garden is a guarantee of freshness . But how can we make tomatoes even better than those we find in the supermarket? First of all, you have to know that growing these fruits is quite simple but requires a lot of care . To plant tomatoes, simply place the seeds a few centimeters under the soil, cover them and water them. Then, theoretically, after two to three months, the tomatoes will germinate.

The sprouts appear almost immediately, but to see the birth and growth of the tomato itself, you have to wait patiently . However, while you wait, a lot can be done to contribute to the correct development of the fruit. In addition to water and various fertilizers, there is a special ingredient that you will never do without: eggshell . Yes, you read that right, we can use eggshells as the main ingredient in our gardening business. Let’s see together why and how to do it.

Growing tomatoes in the vegetable garden with eggshells: Why you should do it

It may seem strange and absurd, but it’s true: the eggshell is a panacea for our tomatoes. We must never forget that the tricks of experienced growers are always effective and well thought out. When we try to grow fruits, vegetables or greens, we must never forget the importance of offering them the right nutrients. Not all important nutrients can be obtained from water intake alone, this aspect must be encouraged. Just as we humans take vitamin supplements to feel better, plants also need vitamins and minerals.

Iron, zinc and magnesium are essential. Eggshells contain a mineral that is particularly important for tomatoes: calcium . Calcium is necessary for the normal development of the root system, it is involved in cell structures and makes them much more resistant to attacks by fungi and parasites. When calcium is lacking, we notice it immediately through a clear signal : the signs of rot, the rot that gradually begins to split the fruit in two.

How to add eggshells to soil

The best way to put the eggshell in the soil is to chop it finely . It should be almost like powder or flour. A spoonful of chopped shell is enough to put it in a fairly deep hole. We sprinkle it with soil and plant our tomato seeds on top. Thanks to the crushed shell, our tomatoes can receive a constant source of calcium during the growth phase .

This is a completely sustainable trick that does not harm the environmental health or the health of our tomatoes in any way. This trick can also be applied to the care of all the other elements of our garden : it can only do them good! In addition, it is also a completely sustainable method from an economic point of view . No more money spent on chemical fertilizers.

If you want to have a good harvest of good, ripe tomatoes in your garden, you need to add this ingredient to the soil.
