They need good air circulation. It is best to let the plant dry between two waterings. Additionally, opt for a draining soil that promotes air circulation around the roots, to prevent water stagnation and root rot. Additionally, if your orchid&#8217;s leaves turn yellow and fall off, its roots are most likely rotten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Insufficient watering and loose leaves.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If overwatering is a problem, keep in mind that even&nbsp;&nbsp;underwater watering can kill your plant.&nbsp;&nbsp;Orchids do not like excess. When they lack water, their leaves become limp, wrinkled and withered. To tell if your orchid is dehydrated, check its roots. When they dry, they become gray and brittle. A humidity level between 60% and 80% is recommended for orchids. In fact, when orchids enter a period of vegetative rest, their appearance changes. Your plant may seem dying to you, when it&#8217;s just resting! The dormant period comes just after flowering. This is a normal and natural phase of the orchid cycle. When the orchid is dormant, its growth slows down. It is then advisable to reduce irrigation and stop any addition of manure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To tell if your orchid is dying or doing well, check 3 things: the leaves, the crown, and the roots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The leaves: check their appearance. If they are sturdy and slightly pale green, your plant is doing well. You should be concerned if you notice unusual yellow or brown spots on the leaves. It may mean that your orchid has been infected with a virus. And since there is no cure for the orchid virus, your plant may die.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The crown: This is the part of the plant that connects the leaves and roots. In a healthy orchid, the crown is firm to the touch. If you notice it starting to darken and become soft or mushy, your orchid is dying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The roots: when an orchid is in good health, its aerial roots or roots buried in the ground are green or white. If they turn brown or black, your orchid is dying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"comment-sauver-une-orchidee-mourante-ou-fanee\">How to save a dying or withered orchid?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To revive your orchid, you must again create conditions for its natural environment. This will give it a second life and encourage new flowering. Here&#8217;s how to save your dying, dry or wilting orchid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Save an orchid that died from root rot<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the roots have rotted, it means that you had a lot of hand watering your plant. This is what you can do to save it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Carefully remove the orchid from its pot and remove any soil stuck to the roots;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you notice that there are still healthy roots or that the roots are not soft, it means that you still have a chance to save your plant;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cut off rotten roots with pruning shears;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lightly sprinkle a fungicide over the remaining roots and at the level of the cuts. You can use powdered sulfur for this;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Allow the roots to air dry, then repot the orchid in a new pot. Orchids don&#8217;t like just any soil. The latter must be draining, with air pockets, to promote its circulation. Your growing medium should consist of bark, peat moss, or charcoal. These materials allow better air circulation to the roots. Be sure to transplant your orchid into a disinfected, fungus-free pot. You can also opt for a terracotta pot, which is very suitable for orchids.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Revive a dehydrated and dry orchid with a bath<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To revive your dehydrated orchid due to insufficient watering, follow these simple steps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fill a container with room temperature water and soak your orchid pot in it. Make sure only the roots are submerged in water, as water collected on the foliage can cause the leaves to rot;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Let the roots soak in water for 20 to 30 minutes;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remove pot from container and let drain;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Repeat this operation when the soil dries completely, then bathe your orchid only once a week.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Saving an orchid that lacks humidity<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your tropical plant needs humidity. You can install a humidifier in the room your orchid is in, but if you are worried about increasing the humidity in the room &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and encouraging mold growth,&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;you can use this simple trick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Take a tray of water;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Put stones or gravel on it;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Place your pot on the wet gravel tray.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The purpose of having stones is to raise the pot above the water level, so that your orchid can get enough moisture, without its roots becoming waterlogged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Extra tip: To solve this humidity problem, simply place your orchid in the most humid room in the house, like the bathroom. Cut the leaves as close to the base of the plant as possible.
