With varied colors and shapes, they give a tropical touch to all environments.

However, orchids are as beautiful as they are difficult to make bloom or bloom again. These are very fragile and sensitive plants, which need proper care, which must be applied without mistakes.

The same thing always happens when we bring orchids home: once the flowers have fallen, they never grow back. The plant can live for years without blooming again.

But, if the right conditions and time are found, orchids can bloom again. As a general rule, it must be remembered that orchids do not tolerate direct sun, nor outdoor environments where the temperature can drop below 15°C or above 30°C.

Look for a place with plenty of light. Orchids love bright environments, but they do not tolerate direct exposure to the sun. If kept indoors, the best place is near a window, preferably oriented to the north or northeast.

Soil moisture. Orchids are sold with a substrate of pine bark, because their roots need maximum drainage and minimum waterlogging. They are tropical woodland plants, which grow on trees and live on the moisture of fog after rains. Orchids need a moist, but not wet, substrate.

Adequate fertilizer. Orchids need a specific fertilizer, which you can buy in specialized stores. Without fertilizer, flowering is unlikely.

The orchids that are purchased almost always come from greenhouses, and are already abundantly fertilized. However, after a few months we should start pouring fertilizer.

Adequate temperature contrast. Orchids need an optimal temperature contrast in the weeks leading up to the arrival of spring. This contrast is about 10°C between the night minimum and the daytime maximum. One way to ensure this contrast is to place the plant near a north-facing window during March nights, and in any case away from heating.

During the day, however, it can be moved to a place where it can receive light and warmth. This factor is essential to stimulate the flowering of orchids.

Share article

Important: This website does not give medical advice, nor does it suggest the use of techniques as a form of treatment for physical problems, for which medical advice is required.
