It all happened on a Sunday at noon.

When I returned, while everyone was sleeping, I switched door to door.<\/p>\n\n\n\n When my son saw me kneeling in the doorway, he went white.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “What are you doing, Dad?” When I finished, I gathered the family in the living room and said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n “From this day on, whoever wants to enter this house asks me. There are no keys for everyone anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n No one answered. The silence said enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That same week I went to see a lawyer. But no one said anything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A few days later, my youngest son sat across from me. “Dad… We were talking. We think it would be better if you went to a place where they take care of you. Now it was no longer a family argument. It was law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I thought things would calm down, but the opposite happened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n One night I heard knocking on the door. When I went out into the hallway, my two oldest children had broken the lock and were coming in saying:<\/p>\n\n\n\n “This house belongs to everyone. You can’t keep locking us up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I looked at them with a calmness that I didn’t expect to have at my age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “Of all… or mine? I asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n None of them answered. That same night, as I locked my room from the inside, I decided everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n At dawn I dressed in my light blue shirt, took my papers and went to the land registry with the lawyer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n There I signed the sale of the house. When I returned at noon, my children were in the living room. I looked at them without haste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “The house is no longer mine,” I told them. I sold it. In a few weeks they will have to look for a place to live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Their faces ran out of blood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “How could you?” cried the younger.
