This technique is very common among gardeners, as it produces varieties of roses that are difficult to find on the market.

Propagating roses by cuttings (stems or branches cut directly from a rose bush) is a simple technique, but steps must be followed to ensure that satisfactory results are achieved.

Before you begin, it is important to point out that old cuttings cannot be used, but should be cut and planted immediately. The ideal cuttings are semi-mature stems, 6 to 10 millimeters thick and 15 to 20 centimeters long, and which already have small shoots.

Once you’ve selected the most appropriate branch or stem for your plant, follow these simple steps to prepare them before growing:

Cut the tip of the branch obliquely or diagonally, just above a bud.

The lower part of the branch should be cut horizontally.

Remove the leaves and clean the entire branch. You can also remove some of the bottom bark to improve root development, but this step is not necessary.

Use rooting hormones to help new plants grow and grow.

How to Plant Rose Stems

There are many methods to breed roses through the stem. The traditional method is to use a pot with soil, but there are many others. Whichever method you choose, make sure you don’t expose the stems to direct sunlight and give them just the right amount of moisture.

Replicating roses in potatoes

After preparing the stems as described above, insert them into a potato. While this method does not involve the use of soil, make sure you give the right moisture.

Once the roots appear, the stem can be planted in the ground.

Play roses in the water

In this method, the stems are placed in water and, thanks to a cut on the lower part, the formation of roots is stimulated.

You need special tubing and a preparation of peat, vermiculite, and perlite to help absorb moisture. You’ll also need to use rooting hormones and make sure to maintain the right humidity (which isn’t difficult with this method).

Breeding roses in the ground

This is the traditional method of reproducing roses. Fill a pot with potting soil filled with peat and put the stems in it. You can also use specific soil for plant reproduction.

Wet the potting soil and use the rooting hormone before putting the stems in. If it’s too hot, you can cover the pot and baste regularly.

Now that you know how to breed roses from the stem, choose the method that best suits your needs and try right now.

The easiest and cheapest method to reproduce roses is through their stem.
